Ramblings from a rambler.

Zoo Day!

Grey and I got in for free with our friend Sami’s guest pass. Grey enjoyed petting the lion cub statue and getting an up close look at the penguins. We happened to be there in time for their feeding which was very entertaining. Grey used his “ah! ah!” bird sound (like a crow calling rather than a cute “tweet tweet”) and the sign language for eating and one of his newest words “fish” so tell me say one of his first complete sentences, “The birds are eating fish!”

We were surprised to see the grizzly bear out, although it was dug into a little pit in the ground and snuggling its ball like a pillow. The sign informed us that the zoo bear doesn’t hibernate, but does spend more time sleeping in the winter.

Grey’s absolute favorite part was the elephant enclosure. He does a pretty good elephant impersonation, lifting his arm like a trunk in front of his face and everything, that he learned from his grandma a while ago. He was in the Ergobaby Carrier at that point since he was resisting walking any distance on his own two feet. I’m going to have to work on that if he’s going to be my hiking buddy soon!

At the very end of our day, we passed the lions during feeding time and got up close to a lion who was devouring a frozen pig carcass on the other side of the glass. He didn’t seem to notice or care about the similar sized edible human children who were just a couple inches away from his fangs. (I am mad at myself that I didn’t take a picture of that!)
