Ramblings from a rambler.

Cross Country Skiing- Too Much Snow

Well, our wish was granted. It dumped 6-8 inches overnight while we were still up in Granby. We eagerly geared up and hit the trail…

But wait… where IS the trail…?

That’s right. Our wishful thinking had cursed ourselves with having to break trail while trying to navigate to a place that we hoped would have at least a solid foundation 8 inches down. I kept pointing out logs that had been cut in the past, indicating that a tree had fallen over a trail and had been cut to clear the way. But it didn’t help us much.

A couple of times I had to maneuver the Chariot over fallen logs that went pretty smoothly. One time I had to unclip and have Mom help me completely lift it up and over. Grey blessedly slept through the whole thing.

Mom, who had the previous outing complained about snowshoers and snowmobilers ruining the trails for skiers, now was calling upon the universe to please send a snowmobile to break the trail for us! I was making her go first to help me out since I was already breaking the trail for the Ski Attachment runners which are set wider than our skis.

Thank heavens we did finally find a trail and the path that a kind snowshoer had laid down for us. It was much easier to break the trail in for the skis following his prints. But eventually he went off trail where the Chariot wouldn’t fit through the willows and we had to turn back.

It worked out anyway because it was much colder this day and I’m pretty sure Grey was starting to freeze, even with his Obermeyer Snowsuit and some Body Warmers tucked inside. A little body can only take so much time in 17 degrees, no matter how great their gear.

We didn’t take many pictures, since we were using more energy just to keep moving on this day. But this particular section was a little easier because of the snowshoer and the windblown snow being a little firmer. I liked the way Mom looked blazing the trail through the snowy forest.
