Cross Country Skiing Eldora Nordic Area

In order to prepare for a 3 day cross country hut trip, my friend Sarah and I thought it prudent to at least break in our gear and our muscles for the first time this season in a groomed nordic area first. We like Eldora for its woodsy feel and trails with a variety of difficulty ratings. We sat in the traffic on the road just trying to get to the parking area for longer than was comfortable, but did get a spot. That’s what we get for going anywhere on a Saturday. The nordic area did not feel crowded at all, thankfully. (Speaking of thanks, our gratitude to the lady at the front desk who let us use some free wax since I forgot my Swix at home.) We started out seeking the greens and kicking along to earn a few little “wheee'” downhills. Once we looped all the easy stuff twice, we ventured into the blues and worked a little harder. Our “whee” only came after we felt certain we weren’t going to wreck on the downhills. We ran through those twice and then our legs and backs were feeling it. With a successful first day of the season in the bag, we headed back down the mountain for some pupusas at El Callejon in Golden.
